Tatiana Maslany and Mary Elizabeth Winstead are the frontrunners for the female lead in Gemini Man, an action movie to star Will Smith.

Ang Lee is directing the movie, which hails from Skydance and Paramount.

Smith is playing two roles in the unique actioner. One is that of Henry, an aging assassin who wants to get out of the business but finds himself in a battle with the ultimate opponent: his clone, who is 25 years younger and at the peak of his abilities.

Clive Owen, meanwhile, is in talks to play the head of the cloning program, one of the villains of the movie, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter.

Maslany and Winstead have read and are testing for the role of Danny, an operative who works for the same company as Henry and is tasked to surveil him. However, she soon teams up with him. Elizabeth Debicki (Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2) is also in the running for the female lead.

A decision for the part will be made soon as the movie is eying a February start with an international shoot that would include locations ranging from Savannah, Georgia to Budapest, Hungary.

Maslany is the award-winning actress who starred in her own clone project, Orphan Black. She starred with Jake Gyllenhaal in the drama Stronger.

Winstead is coming off a turn in season three of FX’s acclaimed Fargo.

Tatiana Maslany won’t be striking a Pose.

Earlier Wednesday, FX officially announced a series order for Ryan Murphy’s Pose, which features the most trans series regulars ever on an American television show. But noticeably absent from the release was Maslany, who had previously been cast as a modern dance teacher who develops a relationship with Damon (Ryan Jamaal Swain).

Now the network has confirmed that the Orphan Black star has exited the drama, with the role having been “reconceived and rewritten to be a 50-year-old African-American woman.” This has led to the casting of ER and Law & Order: SVU alum Charlayne Woodard.

Maslany recently wrapped her five-season, Emmy-winning run on Orphan Black, in which she starred as more than 10 different clone characters. Meanwhile, in addition to joining Pose, Woodard is set to reprise her Unbreakable role as the mother of Elijah Price (Samuel L. Jackson) in M. Night Shyamalan’s 2019 sequel Glass.

Pose will premiere on FX in the summer of 2018.

Tatiana Maslany, who won an Emmy for her role in Orphan Black, and Sebastian Stan from the Captain America and Avengers franchises along with the Oscar-buzzed-about I, Tonya, are in negotiations to join Nicole Kidman in the crime thriller Destroyer. The feature is being directed by Karyn Kusama from an original screenplay by Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi. 30WEST is fully financing the film with Fred Berger of Automatik, who will be producing alongside Hay and Manfredi.

This brings the team together of Kusama, Hay and Manfredi who were behind the critically acclaimed 2015 film The Invitation.

Destroyer follows the moral and existential odyssey of LAPD detective Erin Bell who, as a young cop, was placed undercover with a gang in the California desert with tragic results. When the leader of that gang re-emerges many years later, she must work her way back through the remaining members and into her own history with them to finally reckon with the demons that destroyed her past.

Rocket Science is handling international sales, which began at the American Film Market, where Bliss Media acquired the distribution rights to Destroyer in China. ICM Partners and CAA are representing the North American rights.

The BBC America’s Orphan Black (for which Maslany won an Emmy) finished its five-series run earlier this year. Most recently, the actress starred alongside Jake Gyllenhaal in Lionsgate’s Stronger, and has also appeared in films such as The Other Half, Two Lovers and a Bear, Woman in Gold, and The Vow.

Stan portrays Tonya Harding’s disgraced husband, Jeff Gilooly in I, Tonya. 30WEST will co-distribute the film with Neon on Dec. 8th. The actor is currently filming the next installation of the Avengers series and will reprise his role of Bucky Barnes in The Winter Soldier in Avengers: Infinity War next spring. Stan has also appeared in I’m Not Here, Logan Lucky, The Martian and Black Swan.

Maslany is repped by ICM Partners and The Characters Talent Agency; Stan is by ICM Partners and Brookside Artist Management.
